What does it mean to be a Certified B Corporation?

Certified B Corporations are for-profit companies that uphold the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. At RPA, we are legally and morally dedicated to prioritizing our responsibility to the environment and society. Our articles of association, registered at Companies House, now reflect this commitment, ensuring that every business decision we make considers the welfare of people and the planet, transcending mere financial gains.

The Journey to Becoming a B Corp

Becoming a Certified B Corporation involved an extensive and meticulous process for RPA. We diligently underwent The B Impact Assessment, a comprehensive analysis of our entire business across five key categories: Governance, Workers, Customers, Community, and Environment. This assessment evaluates the positive impact generated by our day-to-day operations on our workers, community, and the environment.

To achieve Certified B Corporation status, a minimum score of 80 points across these categories is required. We are proud to share that RPA achieved a score of 121.1, surpassing the threshold with distinction. Moving forward, our commitment is to maintain and improve our score, striving for greater positive impact. Official re-certification will occur every three years to ensure our continued adherence to the highest standards.

Why RPA Became a B Corp

RPA is an employee-owned business led by a senior team that is passionate about making a difference where it can and where it matters. Becoming a B Corp was a natural progression, allowing us to share our commitments publicly and amplify their impact. B Corps embody the gold standard for responsible business practices, placing equal importance on the well-being of the community and the planet, rather than solely focusing on shareholders. We wanted to be at the forefront of this movement, as we recognize the growing significance of these values. By embracing public transparency and legal accountability, we aim to build trust and value while ensuring a sustainable future for our business, both economically and environmentally, for generations to come.

Global Reach of the B Corp Movement

As of May 2023, there are over 6,000 Certified B Corporations worldwide, with the United Kingdom surpassing the 1,000 milestone in late 2022. Notable companies that share this distinction include Ben & Jerry’s, Brewgooder, Volvic, innocent Drinks, Patagonia, and The Body Shop.

What’s Next for RPA as a B Corp?

Our journey as a Certified B Corporation is just beginning. Our focus is to maintain and build upon our impressive score, with a particular emphasis on measuring the impact we create for our end clients. We aim to further refine and enhance our ability to drive positive change.
