PFAS Restriction in Firefighting Foams
The EU Commission recently announced that they have implemented new restrictions on the use of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in firefighting foams under the EU REACH Regulations.
This new restriction will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal, and provides for transition periods of between 12 months and 10 years.
The aim of the restriction is to limit the exposure and pollution caused by PFAS in firefighting foams, and ensuring transition to non-PFAS alternatives.
