Costs of Registration

Costs to consider for REACH Registrations

The cost of a REACH Registration varies depending on the jurisdiction, the type of registration (e.g. full or joint registration, intermediate, etc), the type of substance and whether key information, such as analytical data, is already available to the registrant.

The main cost elements to consider when initiating a REACH registration are as follows:

  • Chemical analysis for substance identity
Standard analytical data must be provided as part of the registration dossier. Where these data are not already available to the registrant, the necessary testing must be carried out.
  • Testing and CSR preparation (individual submission)
For individual registrations, further testing, including toxicological and ecotoxicological studies, may be required, together with preparation of the Chemical Safety Report. Where needed, these are often the most significant components of the overall registration cost.
  • Letter of Access (LoA) (joint submission)
A LoA is required only for joint registrations, where registrants rely on data sharing arrangements to submit information on the substance, such as toxicological or ecotoxicological data, or the Chemical Safety Report. The cost of a LoA can vary significantly depending on the substance group and the number of co-registrants.
  • Registration fees
Registration fees depend on the jurisdiction, the type of registration, for example individual, joint or intermediate registration, the tonnage band, and the size of the company.

  • Consultancy fees
Consultancy costs vary depending on the type of registration, the complexity of the substance, and the level of support required.
