We are looking to add further experience to our Chemicals team to support our services particularly in the area of chemical policy development for the UK and EU, with some work also in the areas of REACH authorisation and chemical regulatory advice.

About the job

We are currently looking to reinforce our chemicals’ policy area for UK and EU REACH clients and are looking to recruit a senior/principal consultant with experience in policy development, analysis and impact assessments, strong communication and organisational skills.

You will be working with a multidisciplinary team, in a supportive and dynamic environment, working on multiple projects at the same time. You will thrive working against deadlines whilst delivering to a high quality.

Requirements:

  • Typically 5 to 10+ years of experience (longer experience expected as Principal Consultant) within policy consultancy, focusing on regulatory and policy development and implementation processes in the EU or the UK.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills and experience in scoping, planning, monitoring and leading relevant projects for public or private sector clients within budget and time constraints. Ability to manage subcontractors and projects with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in leading and writing tenders for the public and private sector, ability to maintain excellent client relationships and generate new business leads.
  • Experience in economic and policy analysis, development and evaluation of policy measures, data collection, validation and analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Detailed knowledge of chemical regulations, particularly REACH, but other regulations also relevant, e.g. CLP, CMRD, Food Contact Materials etc.
  • Good understanding of the processes behind the development of public policy in e.g. EU or UK REACH, Biocides Product Regulation, CLP, Chemical Strategy for Sustainability etc., how to assess the impacts of policy options, and the need for intervention by authorities.
  • Knowledge about the EU Better Regulation Guidelines or UK Green/Magenta book.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. The ability to communicate clearly effectively with a wide range of stakeholders is essential. Demonstrable experience in presenting technical subjects to a wide range of audiences and writing concisely in good English.
  • You will be interacting with private businesses and therefore an understanding of Confidential Business Information, and how to treat, aggregate and share confidential data are essential.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrable experience in gathering data from stakeholders, running surveys in EU survey or other platforms, interviews and site visits. Preferably also experience in running workshops, focus groups and semi-structured interviews.
  • Contribution toward business development and mentoring more junior colleagues.
  • Postgraduate qualification in chemistry, environmental science, economics, engineering or similar.
  • Knowledge around substitution principles, constraints (such as legal or technical function requirements) and the development of analysis of alternatives.
  • One or more EU languages besides English.

Salary

RPA operates a transparent pay policy and pay is based on relevant experience. The Senior consultant level starts at £35,500 and the Principal consultant level starts at £50,000.
